You know you are married when...

Kyle and I have been kind of exhausted lately. We both work hard (especially him) and were also really worked up about the election (especially me)... so the last few weeks have been physically draining on us.

Last Wednesday, after the ballots had been counted and our tears of happiness dried out, we found ourselves so exhausted that we didn't even feel like lifting a finger. All we wanted to do was watch TV. So I came up with this brilliant idea to move our bed into the living room so that we could lie down and watch television at the same time!

Kyle fully supported my proposal and before we knew it, the rug was all rolled up, the bed was in the living room and our apartment was looking a lot like a refugee camp. We couldn't have been happier.

We were telling our friends Jill and Joe about our adventure fully aware how silly we had been but not really regretting doing this, when Joe, only half-jokingly asked... Well, couldn't you just have moved the TV instead?

Oh.

We are SOOO married, we thought. We totally enable each other to follow through with our stupid ideas. And that's awesome, I think.

The K-G's and the election

Sorry for not keeping up with my daily-posting promise. This election thing... just... you know... I needed time to take it all in. I also needed some time to rest.

Kyle and I both contributed to election coverage in Bulgaria. I kept an election day diary and Kyle worked on a photo-essay for Idealist, a new progressive publication out of Sofia. We loved working on those projects... as we were both very personally invested in Obama's election campaign. I also participated in Re:TV's special election programming, commenting on the election and reporting on election results. It was a truly amazing but also an extremely stressful experience. I am so happy we got a chance to share our enthusiasm for Obama with Bulgarians and, also, I love the fact that our professional and personal interests continue to keep us connected to Bulgaria. That's how I've always thought it should be.

When people ask us where we plan to live, we always say... well... in the US and in Bulgaria. But I sort of feel like they don't really believe us. I am not sure if there is anything I could ever say or do to convince them otherwise. But I couldn't care less, really. After spending a day taking pictures of people casting their vote on Tuesday, Kyle came home... hopeful but exhausted and asked if I would make him mish-mash for dinner. I rest my case.

Confessions and nightmares

I wrote an email to my mother-in-law, aka American Mom, telling her what we've been up to: we were sick but are better now, spent Halloween watching a scary movie with friends, freaking out about THE ELECTION. I didn't really think twice about it. And then I get an email back from her. She wants more details!!!

Now, how do I confess that not only did we not dress up but we watched a "horror" movie titled The Hole?! I worry she would be disappointed.

That's what you get for marrying a Bulgarian, she would tell Kyle. First, you stop celebrating Halloween and then before you know it, you are spending your Friday nights watching Keira Knightley movies!!!

An open call for mix-breeders

So, with some trepidation, I am announcing my second annual involvement in National Blog Posting Month. I will try to post once every day in the month to come.

My hope for this year is to find a bunch of other mix-breeders like Kyle and myself. I.e. I am hoping to meet other people who are romantically involved with partners who do not share their nationality. Something tells me there are plenty of laughs out there to be shared.

If you know a mix-breeder or you happen to be one yourself, please say hi!!!

I am cross-posting all entries at NaBloPoMo.
